Privacy policy
This policy explains what Bitewise stores about you, why, for how long, who receives it, and how you can export or erase it. Effective date: 30 September 2026.
Who is responsible for your data
This policy covers the Bitewise server at https://calories-openai.rechik.com. It is run by its operator: the person or organisation that set up this server and made the app available to you. The operator decides how your data is handled and is responsible for it.
The operator’s contact details are published where you obtained the app, for example on its page in the ChatGPT app directory.
What the server stores
Only what you log or set yourself, plus the minimum needed to tell your diary apart from other people’s:
- Meals: date, time and time zone, meal type (breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack), title, your note, how the meal was entered (photo, text, label, quick entry or repeat) and the share of it you ate.
- Food items in a meal: name, amount in grams or millilitres, calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates; when known, fibre, sugar, saturated fat and sodium; and a mark of how confident the estimate was.
- Body weight: date, time, weight and your note.
- Water: date, time and amount.
- Activity: date, time, name, duration, estimated energy burned and your note.
- Favourite meals: name, meal type, food items and how often you used them.
- Profile and goal, if you choose to give them: sex, year of birth, height, activity level, goal (lose, maintain or gain weight), goal weight, pace, macronutrient preset, and your daily targets for calories, protein, fat and carbohydrates with the date each one started.
- Settings: the name of your time zone (for example, Europe/Berlin), units, daily water target and display options.
- Identity. Depending on how this installation is set up, this is either the anonymous identifier that ChatGPT sends with your requests, kept only as a keyed hash (HMAC) that cannot be turned back into the identifier, or an account on this server with a login and a password, where the password is kept only as a salted hash. With an account, sign-in sessions and the access tokens given to ChatGPT are kept as hashes and expire.
- Your agreement to the data notice: when you agreed and to which version.
- Export links: a hash of each temporary download link, what was exported, the date range and when the link expires.
- Technical dates: when each record was created or changed.
The server log has one line per request to the app: which function was called, how long it took and whether it succeeded. It contains no diary contents and nothing that identifies you. To limit abuse, the server counts your requests per minute in memory; this count is not saved.
The app itself does not store IP addresses. When you open this site or an export link in your browser, the web server in front of the app may record a standard access log (IP address, time, address requested) for security.
What the server does not collect
- Photos. When you send a photo of food, ChatGPT analyses it. This server receives only the resulting text and numbers, never the image.
- Your chat history. The server receives only the details ChatGPT passes to it to carry out your request, for example the meal to save. It does not receive or reconstruct the rest of the conversation.
- Your location. Only the name of your time zone is used, so that a meal lands on the right day. No city, address or coordinates are stored.
- Payment data. The app sells nothing and processes no payments.
- Contacts, government identifiers, medical records or passwords for other services.
The pages of this site set no cookies and load no scripts, trackers or analytics.
Health-related data
Body weight and what you eat are health-related information. The server stores nothing about you until you have seen the data notice and agreed to it: in the chat, or on the sign-up page if this installation uses accounts. Please do not put diagnoses, medication or other medical details into notes. The app does not need them.
Bitewise is a general wellness tool for logging and statistics. It does not give medical advice, diagnosis or treatment, and it is not intended for managing a medical condition.
Why the data is used
- To show your diary and let you correct it.
- To calculate daily totals, targets, trends and statistics.
- To remember your settings and favourite meals.
- To produce the export you ask for.
That is all. The operator does not sell your data, does not share it for advertising, does not show advertising, does not use your data to profile you, and does not use it to train AI models.
Who receives the data
- You, through ChatGPT. When you ask for your diary or statistics, the server sends the result to ChatGPT so that it can show it to you. The result becomes part of your conversation there.
- The operator’s hosting. The database is a file on the server that the operator runs. If that server is rented, the hosting company supplies the machine and does not receive your data for its own use.
- Nobody else. There are no advertisers, analytics services or data brokers. The operator may have to disclose data when the law requires it.
ChatGPT and OpenAI
You talk to ChatGPT, not to this server. Your messages and photos are processed by OpenAI under its own terms and privacy policy, which this policy does not replace. Bitewise is an independent app and is not made or endorsed by OpenAI. To learn how OpenAI handles your conversations, read OpenAI’s privacy policy.
How long the data is kept
- Your diary, weight, water, activity, favourites, goal and settings are kept until you erase them. Nothing expires on its own.
- An entry you delete is hidden and marked as deleted so that you can undo the deletion. It is removed for good when you erase all your data.
- Export download links stop working after 15 minutes.
- Erasing all your data removes every record about you at once, including the identity record. It cannot be undone.
- If the operator makes backups of the server, an erased record can remain in a backup until that backup is replaced.
Your choices
- See your data: ask ChatGPT to show a day, your statistics or your plan.
- Correct it: change any meal, food item, weigh-in or goal on its card, or say what to change.
- Delete one entry: delete it on its card or ask in the chat. You can undo this.
- Export: write “export my data” in the chat. You get CSV files with your meals, daily totals, weight, water and activity.
- Erase everything: write “erase all my data” in the chat and confirm. This also withdraws your agreement to the data notice.
For any other request about your data, contact the operator.
The operator’s contact details are published where you obtained the app, for example on its page in the ChatGPT app directory.
Age
Bitewise is for people aged 13 and older. It is not directed at children under 13, and they must not use it. For users aged 13 to 17 the app does not create weight-change plans and offers only an estimate for keeping the current weight.
Changes to this policy
When this policy changes, the new text is published on this page with a new effective date. The date at the top shows which version you are reading.
